The olive oil of the Lebanese village Deir Mimas, particularly the “Darmmess” olive oil brand, has once again placed Lebanon on the map of the world’s best olive oils. The brand owner, Rose Bechara, won the gold medal for “Best Olive Oil of 2023” at the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.

Bechara is a native of Deir Mimas. She has been proud of her village’s olive oil since she was young and always dreamed of launching her own olive oil brand to the world. However, her dream was delayed until 2019, just before the October 17 uprising. In her first local experience, Bechara won two medals in her first year of work, and the awards began to follow one after another.

“It is an award and pride for all of Lebanon,” said Bechara, explaining that her brand is sold internationally in 16 countries around the world. “We needed global distinction. Although Lebanese olive oil is among the tastiest and highest quality in the world, it has not proven itself globally despite competing with foreign oil on the shelves abroad.”
